Hot Spot

Turns out that the fountain in the Del Mar Highlands Town Center is the new hot spot.

Or at least a great place to cool down when the temperature soars.

For this scooter-riding security guy, it was just a reminder of how warm it was under a helmet and long sleeves.

While the kids considered it an outdoor shower.

With none of the hassles of soap and having to strip down.

For a canine named Cooper, it was the largest drinking fountain in Carmel Valley.

And a place to make friends and attract an audience.

Phones

At the Encinitas Farmers Market on Sunday, there was a rotary phone sitting on a table with other antiques.

A young girl, possibly a first-grader, walked up to admire it.

"What is this?" she asked.

A phone.

"How do you make it work?"

Her index finger was placed in the wheel on the number 6 and she was shown how to 'dial'.

She marveled at the machine.

But then at her age, she is used to this.

1st Annual Cardiff Kook Run

There is a statue of a surfer along Highway 101 in Cardiff-by-the-Sea.

It is affectionately known as the Cardiff Kook.

Pranksters have 'dressed' the statue for years.

So it makes sense that there would be a costume division at the race.

An dress up they did, from sharks to super heroes to everything in between.

Girly Drink for the Super Bowl

The big game is tomorrow.

New England Patriots vs. New York Giants.

Which means one thing.

Twenty-four hours to stock up on beverages and snacks.

My friend dropped off a four-pack --- in a red sparkly box --- adorned with cut-out bubbles and filled with pop-top cans and matching straws.

Couldn't be more excited.

As I am quite fond of champagne and an effervescent white wine sounds darn close.

Plus, I am a sucker for clever packaging....

I just hope jalapeƱo poppers and quesadillas will make a good pairing!

Downtown Water Feature

Tall poles, lined up with military precision, provide the synchronized splash from the fountain.

I doubt that wading, soaking or floating is permitted.

But the view was refreshing nonetheless.
