Green Acre

There is an old television series with Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor and the theme song starts with:

Green Acres is the place to be

Farm livin' is the life for me 

And that is the tune that goes through my head when I step from the parking lot in the middle of this industrial park in San Diego and head up the path to an organic vegetable garden and corporate eatery called Green Acre.

And if all of that is not enough to entice you, there are SWINGS, indoors…..right across from the elevators.

If I worked in one of these buildings I would probably swing every day before heading to my desk.

After ordering a bowl of oatmeal and cherries from the cafe!

It is the place to be.

First Day of Spring

Every year we plant a vegetable garden in the back yard.

By late March/early April.

Except last year. We planted in June. Our weekends just seemed to get away from us in 2010.

Tomatoes are mandatory.

Three different kinds, at least.

It increases our odds for success.

We have grown corn (enough ears for one dinner party), peppers, squash, beans and lettuce.

There has been a lot of chatter lately about revamping the entire yard, installing drip irrigation, stone paths and such.

Seems like it would take a lot of effort.

Plus our back fence started to fall down so we should probably address that first.

Phooey.

The big makeover can wait and we got the fence to stay upright.

At least temporarily.

For now, we'll just watch our garden grow.
