Greenwich Foot Tunnel

After a day in Greenwich, we asked the woman at the information booth how to get to the foot tunnel so we could walk UNDER the Thames River.

In atypical British manner, she loudly retorted, “Why on earth would you want to do that? It's like taking a long walk through a men's urinal!"

Hmmmmm, guess that excursion has never been on her London To Do List.

Didn’t matter.

It turns out that they are renovating the urinal, errr, I mean tunnel.

So, having spent the day doing all things maritime-ish, we took a boat, the Thames Clipper, from Greenwich to the Tower Bridge.

Fun and fast, great way to get home.

Earlier in the day, we visited the markets and Greenwich Park, which will host the 2012 Olympic Equestrian events - Jumping, Dressage, Modern Pentathlon, and is home to the Royal Observatory.

Lots of telescopes, pictures of famous astronomers, compasses, sundials, information about longitude and latitude and telling time by distance of the stars and other stuff that was related to math that made me step outside and just admire the views of the city!

Greenwich led the world in maritime and scientific traditions that resulted in the Greenwich Meridian and Greenwich Mean Time becoming adopted as world standards.

The Prime Meridian line that divides the East from the West (longitude 0° 0' 0'').

Down the hill is the Maritime Museum.

A full-size propeller sits inside the entrance.

There is an exceptional Toy Boat exhibit featuring a collection from all over the world…..and there is nothing ‘toy’ about the boats except their size, the detail was amazing (no photography was allowed).
