Honey Cake

This afternoon two sisters from Uzbekistan brought homemade honey cake to celebrate our last cooking class before the summer recess.

It was bakery quality!

Three layers of a light sponge separated by cream and topped with chopped walnuts and chocolate.

They rattled off the ingredients (i.e. flour, sugar, honey, vinegar, eggs, baking soda, cornstarch, cream) in clear English, talking me through their recipe. Including specific techniques like separating the egg whites from the ‘yellow part’.

A most delicious and educational way to end the year.
