Leaving Las Vegas

It is a short flight to and from San Diego.

I know because it used to be an annual event. A tradeshow was held every June at the Las Vegas convention center. We set up our booth. Put on our microphones. Demonstrated our software. Temperatures outside were generally in the 100’s.

One time the sole of my shoe actually melted onto the pavement.

This trip had nothing to do with work or brutal heat or packing business suits.

It had everything to do with leisure and fun and birthday celebrating.

So we decided to drive.

And we drove.

And drove some more.

As it is over 300 miles.

The high desert is its own kind of pretty….but mile after mile it gets rather monotonous.

Heading towards Las Vegas.
We assumed 70 was just a suggestion.

An unpronounceable exit sign provided some amusement.

It was the drive home that was memorable.

We left early hoping to avoid the worst of the storm that was brewing.

The clouds followed. Bringing raindrops and snowflakes.

Odd to see snow-covered cactus.
The higher elevations had a blanket of snow.

The lower elevation showed the snowline on the mountains.

Would have missed all of this if we had flown.
